Manchin gets in the face of climate protester after being called a ‘sick f—‘

In a striking incident at the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, found himself at the center of a tense confrontation with a climate activist. The event, captured in a video by the climate change advocacy group Climate Defiance and shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), escalated quickly when the protester accused Manchin of betraying future generations for personal gain.

The video below is an edited version from the activist group involved in the incident; Climate Defiance. Viewer Discretion: language.

The altercation unfolded during a round-table discussion when the activist approached Manchin, accusing him, “Joe Manchin, you sold our futures and got rich doing it. You sick f—. How dare you?” Manchin’s immediate reaction was to stand and advance towards the activist, though he was quickly intercepted by another individual. Despite the intervention, the activist continued, “You sold our futures,” before being pushed to the ground. The video then transitions to Manchin attempting to engage with the protesters, suggesting, “Y’all want to sit down somewhere and talk?”

However, the activists remained confrontational, refusing to sit and accusing Manchin of accepting substantial contributions from the fossil fuel industry, enriching himself through his political position, and even critiquing his choice of transportation, a Maserati. The confrontation highlighted the activists’ focus on the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a project Manchin supported through the Fiscal Responsibility Act and for which he filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court. Directly challenged on public support for the pipeline, Manchin attempted to justify the project but was quickly rebuffed by the activists with chants of “Not our futures, not your profits,” signaling their opposition to his policies and actions.

The event at the Harvard Kennedy School, where Manchin was scheduled to discuss various topics including his predictions for the 2024 election alongside Resident Fellow Alison King, was briefly disrupted by the protest. Harvard University released a statement confirming that a police officer had asked the protesters to leave and that Manchin resumed his discussion with students after the brief interruption. Inquiries for additional comments were made to Manchin’s office, Harvard Police Department, the Kennedy Institute of Politics, and Climate Defiance by Fox News Digital.

This confrontation follows a previous encounter in January, where Climate Defiance attempted to challenge Manchin on his energy and climate policies in New Hampshire. That encounter occurred after Manchin spoke at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics’ “Politics & Eggs” forum, a venue known for its association with presidential hopefuls. Despite speculation about his political ambitions, Manchin clarified last month that he would not pursue a presidential run, either independently or as part of a campaign, emphasizing his commitment to a moderate political stance that eschews extremism.

Manchin’s political journey has been marked by his efforts to position himself as a centrist, emphasizing unity and moderation over partisan divisions. Despite this, his stance on certain issues, including environmental policies and political endorsements, has attracted criticism. His reluctance to endorse President Joe Biden’s reelection bid, citing concerns over the administration’s leftward shift, underscores the senator’s appeal for a more centrist approach in politics, aligning with his belief in the necessity of knowledge, passion, and the ability to unite a divided nation.

This incident at Harvard underscores the ongoing tensions between political figures and activists, particularly on issues of climate change and environmental policy. It highlights the challenges faced by politicians in balancing policy decisions with public and activist expectations, and the increasing role of direct action and public confrontation in political discourse.

  1. So the overpaying and under educated nitwits at Harvard are at it again. I wonder if these propagandized children ever do anything but protest? I wonder if they have ever had to work for a living? Do they even know the the most basic answers to questions concerning Math, Science, History or English? Harvard is a disgraceful institution. They continue to pump out low to mediocre grade simpletons.

  2. More idiocy from the ‘climate scam’ whackos! These poor toadies have been so INDOCTRINATED vice educated that they have no ability to reason with any common sense.

  3. Yes there is climate change at one time the Sahara was a woodland the same goes for places in Nevada, Arizona and Utah. It continually happens. In 1000 AD Greenland had Eric the Red and his people grazing cattle and growing crops there today it is an ice cube. At 1000 AD and back I do not remember history showing internal combustion engines in play at any time during that period. Today’s climate mob is made of opinions Facts???? Where?? Get a life or enter a mental institution!!!!!

    1. You are right – 1 of the World’s leading climate scientists stated – climate change is Absolutely Untrue – man has no effect/affect on climate – none – the Earth goes thru cycles and he explained in detail about the rotation of the Earth and relation of the orbit around the Sun etc – in essence man has nothing to do with climate – period

  4. I bunch of nit wit kids that do t know earth as we nlk ow will be gone dimply by activist like these that dont kniw what they are talking about, kerry rejects

  5. Too bad people fail to understand that pipelines are the safest way to transport oil and gas. Maybe Elon Musk should create an all electric pipeline ? Oops, I forgot, they hate Elon too !

    1. You are on target. Pipeline I worked on has pumping stations every 20 miles. And, each pumping station has three 6,000 hp electric pumps.

  6. If protesters really wanted to make a statement, they could stop using electricity, start riding their bike every where, pick up trash off the road and recycle. Then someone might care what they have to say!

    1. Right on!
We need to end this and focus on the real problem which is pollution of our streets, cities and the world not the use of fuel which is also used to generate elctricity.

    2. I have been saying that for YEARS… They protest, leave their areas deep in trash, so go home in mommy and daddy’s private jets, or their big fancy cars…. Sick Hypocrites they are !!!

  7. Manchin is an idiot. The climate changes everyday. That’s the way GOD designed it. Not the way the government says it I’d. Some thing they just need to keep their noses out of.

  8. Anyone that goes to Harvard today to learn anything real is a fool… that places lost academic excellence long ago.

  9. So how many of these idiots drove to this meeting? How many rode a bike (think tires and how they are made)? How many walked (think shoes/sneakers and how they are made)? How many of them have cell phones (think of how they are made)? They are puppets with nothing better to do in their life. Not a single one of them know what they are talking about. They are brainwashed idiots that have been told WHAT to think instead of HOW to think. I hope they will be happy living in a tent with a candle eating bugs and weeds. Get rid of gas and oil and almost everything will disappear as well including medicines.

  10. Tom Steyer and George Soros, who demand we stop using coal and other fossil fuels, made a ton of money from….guess? COAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Look it up, you climate clowns!

  11. Too bad we can’t assign these people to a category where they can’t use any fossil fuels in their lives. Walk or ride a horse or a wagon. No modern conveniences, etc. Let them spend six months in the 19th century would make them appreciate what fossil fuels have given us, especially during a northern winter.

  12. It is proven that 1 volcanoe – (1) when it goes off creates more pollution than ALL of the fossil fuel users in the World – that is only 1 – think of how may volcanoes go off regularly not with intense smoke fire etc – just a normal everyday release of gas and eruption – so nature provides more pollution every day than man can even imagine

  13. All you have to do is look at the faces of those carrying the signs and spouting all their ridiculous mantras. They are are indoctrinated snowflakes that recently graduated from our sick and getting sicker by the minute public school system that has taught all them this “climate is killing us” BS. Our colleges are now stuffed to the gills with these losers and we graduate total morons who can’t handle real life.
